October 4TH: Family Reading Night at HGES 6:00 pm
October 6th: Breakfast with Books at HGES 6:30 a.m.
October 6th: SPACE CAMP MEETING at Wilder Waite (5:30 in the Cafeteria) This trip will take place March 20-22nd over Spring Break. All 5th grade students and parents are welcome to attend. The cost is $575 per person. Students may attend without parent participation. I am going to Space Camp this year with my son, Carson, and I'm hoping to see lots of my students sign up!
October 10th: No School/Columbus Day
CURRICULUM CONNECTION
Reading: This week we are working on Theme 3 and the comprehension strategy Ask Questions. Students will work this week on asking literal and inferential questions as they read. We also are finishing up our first month of Accelerated Reader. Students have until Friday to meet the goals they set for themselves.
Math: This week we are working on Lesson 2.6 on Order of Operations. Please use the Extra Practice packets to reinforce the skills we are learning in class at home. Do not work ahead in those packets.
Writing: We are finishing our Personal Narratives this week and focusing on a Grammar study. We will be working on parts of speech and writing good sentences. You can check out what we are doing in your child's writing folder.
Social Studies: Western Expansion and the War of 1812
Science: We will begin Chapter 11 this week in Science.
