Curriculum Connection
Reading: We will continue this week learning about Themes and Messages in a variety of texts. The kids are getting REALLY good at identifying both. They have been loving the books we are reading.
Math: Retest on Chapter 4 is on Monday. For those who are retaking, we will do a review right before we take the test. We took the Chapter 8 Pre-test on Decimals, and we will begin that chapter tomorrow. Several students tested out of this chapter and will be working on an enrichment project over the next two weeks.
Science: We will continue learning about Newton's Laws of Motion this week, and we will also be reviewing Simple Machines.
Writing: Students have selected topics for their newspaper articles, and we will begin writing those this week.

A Few Reminders.....
- HGES School Spelling Bee is this Wednesday, February 1st, at 8:30 am in the gym. All parents are welcome to attend. 24 students will be competing from fourth and fifth grade. Sidharth Chunduri, Rohan Patkar, and Jonah Metzger will be representing 5BB. We are SO proud of their hard work, and we cannot wait to watch them do an amazing job on Wednesday!
- Wednesday is also an SIP day, and students will be dismissed at 11:15.
- Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Several students have been coming to school without coats these past few weeks. The playground tends to get very windy because of its location, so make sure your kiddos have the things they need to keep them warm.
- If your child is going to be absent for part of the day or the entire day, please notify Beth or Leah in the office and let them know.
- There will be NO Spelling test this week!
- If your child is absent, they have one day for every day they are gone to complete any assignments.
