CURRICULUM CONNECTION
Reading: We will be exploring elements of stories through mentor texts this week, focusing on conflicts. We will be analyzing a variety of texts that are representative of Black History Month. The texts will correspond with our current read aloud, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, which is an autobiographical account of growing up in South Carolina in the 1960's. We will be using several of the texts we received as part of our Donors Choose project!
Math: We are working on Chapter 9: Multiplying and Dividing decimals. Students have also been independently working on some Valentine coordinate graphing in their free time. It is hard, but they are getting the hang of it!
Social Studies: Today we will take our test on Chapter 5, and will be moving on to World War 1 this week.
Science: This week we will finish up our chapter learning about Simple Machines. We will take a quiz on Thursday. No test this chapter! We will then begin our unit on Jet Toy Cars, where the students will work in teams to create their own balloon powered car.
Writing: This week we will continue to focus on Response to Literature. Students will be applying the RACE strategy when answering essay questions. (Restate the question, Answer it, Cite text evidence, and Explain.)
