Congrats on Ellen, Rhea and Krishiv on advancing to state in Destination Imagination. They competed last weekend against teams from all over the state! We wish them luck as they compete next month!
Curriculum Connection
Reading-We are beginning Theme 8 this week in Reading. Our test will be March 3rd. Students will be applying "fix up strategies" as they read the passages from the text this month. We are also continuing to analyze characters and story elements from some of our Mentor Texts for Black History Month.
Writing-This week we began our unit on Opinion/Persuasive writing. Students will be learning how to write an argument using facts and details. By the end of 5th grade, students should be able to introduce a topic clearly, state an opinion, and create an organizational structure in which ideas are logically grouped to support the writer's purpose. In this unit they will learn how to provide logically ordered reasons that are supported by facts and details. They will be able to link opinions and reasons using words, phrases and clauses, and will be able to provide a concluding statement.
Math-This week we are dividing decimals by 10's, 100's and 1000's. Our test on Chapter 9 will be next TUESDAY.
Science-We will begin our jet toy unit this week. Students will be designing and creating cars powered by a balloon engine!
Social Studies-We will continue learning about World War 1 this week.
We had a GREAT Valentine's Party last week. Thank you, Marcie Gardner and Vineetha Pentela for all of your help!
