READ QUEST 2017
5BB participated in Read Quest on Friday, a national event where kids devote their entire day to reading and try to take as many AR tests as they can. Our class took 96 AR tests! Students who met their February AR goal also got to have breakfast in the classroom. The students watched the live ticker on our Smart Board of how many tests the nation had taken. When we got to school, 171,00 tests had already been taken. When we left for the day, there were over 3 MILLION tests taken!

Curriculum Connection
Reading: This week we will be working on comparing/contrasting different texts. We will be using our mentor texts and a few common core passages.
Writing: We will continue this week with our Opinion essay. Students are currently working on a response to an article about whether or not fast food is good for you. We will work together on writing this essay, and then students will be required to read an article and construct their own opinion essay later in the week.
Science: This week we will be attaching a balloon motor to our jet toy cars and testing out a variety of nozzles to see which one works best with our car. We will be testing our cars this week to see how much weight they can carry, and how the weight affects the overall function of the jet toy. (and I have to say, I have NEVER seen kids so excited about SCIENCE!)
Math: This week is all about Numbers of Base Ten Operations. We will be reviewing all of the standards we have learned this year, and will be doing a variety of activities where they will have to apply what they know to real world problems.
Social Studies: We are almost done with our Social Studies unit on World War I. Ask your kiddos about our Trench Warfare simulation last week. They LOVED it, and also learned about the many problems soldiers faced in WWI. We are looking to take our test early next week!
